2019 Audi Q7 vs 2019 Volvo XC90

Serving Farmington Hills, MI

The Audi Q7 is a luxury midsize SUV model that has been in production by Audi since the 2006 model year. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better luxury SUV model than the Audi Q7. U.S. News and Report selected the 2019 Audi Q7 as the model year’s best luxury three-row SUV for families. This model handles better than most, performs better than most, and has one of the best interiors of any car model in the United States market. The Volvo XC90 compares well against most models, but the base engine is unfavorable, and the transmission needs some work. Additionally, J.D. Power and Associate’s predicted reliability rating of the Volvo XC90 is lower than most luxury SUVs. But let’s take a look at how these two models compare to one another.

As previously mentioned, it’s tough to find a luxury SUV that performs better than the Audi Q7. The standard engine for this model is a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes up to 248 horsepower. This engine, with the eight-speed transmission featured on the Q7, is powerful enough for every driving situation. Those looking for more acceleration can, instead, go with the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine that makes up to 329 horsepower. Both of these engines average 19 city and 25 highway miles per gallon, which aren’t sensational figures, but they’re above average for this class. The Volvo XC90 comes standard with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that can make up to 250 horsepower, which is a decent figure, but not quite suitable enough for an SUV of this size. There’s also a plug-in hybrid XC90, an inline-charged four-cylinder engine mated with an electric motor that makes an exceptional 400 horsepower. However, the transmission can sometimes get confused as it transitions from electric to gas power, which can cause slip-ups during acceleration. Both models are suitable for most driving situations, but the Audi Q7 is impressive, without some of the drawbacks of the Volvo XC90.

The Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90 have two of the best interiors of any luxury SUV model on the market. Both cabins are exceptionally designed with real wood trim pieces and leather upholstery standard for both models. The Audi Q7 takes a slight edge over the Volvo XC90 since the Q7 features an optional interior package that comes with premium leather seats.

While the interiors of these models are great, their infotainment systems are vastly different. The vertical nine-inch display on the XC90 is unique and operates more like a tablet than an infotainment system, which is excellent. However, the Volvo XC90 lacks many of the features that the Audi Q7 has. The Audi Q7 MMI system features an 8.3-inch touchscreen with many typical features such as navigation, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The MMI system is mainly operated with a rotary dial in the center of the model’s interior. Multiple premium sound options, a wireless charging center, and handwriting recognition are just a few of the many optional features that are controlled using this impressive MMI system.
